Hey Readdlers, I hope you are all enjoying the new content! I have tried to reformat and customize the site to be more user and mobile friendly (well as far as my technical knowledge takes me) as I can imagine scrolling through endless reviews to find the one you want is not exactly ideal. If there is a particular book or film review you would like to read please scroll to the bottom of the page and use the search button to find your chosen title. Or simply click on the tags if you would like to see the selection of books and films we have under a certain genre. I am hoping to make a glossary soon when the numbers of reviews increases (and when I learn to do it) to make it even easier to navigate! I have added our social media links at the bottom of the page, so please feel free to like and follow The Readdler!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Suicide Squad:

Director: David Ayer

Release Date: 5 August 2016

Figuring they’re all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission. Now armed with government weapons, Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other despicable inmates must learn to work together. Dubbed Task Force X, the criminals unite to battle a mysterious and powerful entity, while the diabolical Joker (Jared Leto) launches an evil agenda of his own.

What to say about Suicide Squad? I loved it! One does have to remember that it is called suicide squad and not The Joker and the Suicide Squad – but more on that later.

So after watching Suicide Squad I would really recommend it for you comic book lovers! I won’t lie to you, there is a bit too much Will Smith in this movie. I feel as though the movie was “DeadShot and the suicide squad”. Spoiler alert, we do see a glimpse of the love triangle between Harley, DeadShot and the Joker. It’s not a deep relationship, but still there is some sexual tension – which could possibly lead to a solo Harley Quinn movie.

Speaking of the Joker, Jared Leto is just Wow! I genuinely love him, and he fit the role of the Joker perfectly. There is an old school gangster vibe to this incarnation of the Joker, but I found it quite refreshing. You see a different side to him, but don’t expect him to be fighting batman in this movie. His main concern in this movie is the whereabouts of Harley, and whether or not she is ready to live and die for him (which is cute in a creepy kind of way). There are quite a few flashbacks for all the characters, but I loved the flashbacks for Harley’s more than the rest.

Onto the next point, Captain Boomerang is hilarious. His scenes are always funny, and we get a glimpse of how powerful he really is with his boomerang skills – He is actually quite deadly. If I am honest, there isn’t much to say about him because there wasn’t much detail on him in the movie. BUT we do see a certain Justice League Member capturing him.

Okay lets go onto Killer Croc. There isn’t much on him, but he acts like a Gangster – as in the Rap kind of gangster. It is pretty funny but once again I can’t say much on him because there isn’t much to say.

There is a teeny bit of a twist to the film, you don’t expect the villain to be the villain. But it is worth a watch! On a last point, the Joker is in the movie for about 6 minutes collectively – could do with  a bit more of him but then it may seem as if the movie was just about the joker.

How To Archer:

Book by: Sterling Archer

Originally published: 2011

Lying is like 95% of what I do.But believe me: in this book, I’ll let you know exactly how to become a master spy just like me. Obviously, you won’t be as good at it as I am, but that’s because you’re you, and I’m Sterling Archer.

This is going to be a short review. Does anyone else love Archer? I am going to try and stick to the book but forgive me if I start talking about the show (the show is awesome!).  I swear I say phrasing about 90% of the time.

So the book is as Archer as you could imagine. You get some great tips on how to be like the infamous Spy, and how to become a fully functioning alcoholic (as if I needed anymore advice on that). I will admit, if you read this book, you will read it in Archer’s voice.

The book is a lot of great laughs and usual witty comments, but I feel as though I knew everything already (because of the show). Don’t skip the footnotes – they’re the funniest part. My one complaint is the lack of inside jokes and references to the show and characters,  but then again, it is call “How to Archer”.

Overall, read the book! It’s not just a cash making scheme, its genuinely hilarious! £2.99 on amazon is a bargain and its worth the money!

Director: Ilya Naishuller

Release Date: 8 April 2016

Henry wakes up in a Moscow laboratory to learn that he’s been brought back from the dead as a half-human, half-robotic hybrid. With no memory, his wife tells him that his name is Henry. Before she can activate his voice, armed thugs storm in and kidnap her. Henry begins his rampage to save his spouse from the telekinetic spouse who kidnapped her.

Okay, this film is really confusing. Firstly, it is set in first person point of view. So we see everything in the eyes of Henry. It is kind of cool, but it does get to be a bit of a headache after a while. So, the film all in all is pretty action packed. There is so much cramped into the movie, and all of my theories that I had during the film were wrong.

This bone-crunching action film pretty much looks like a video game, and it is almost like being in Call of Duty. We don’t really see Henry’s face or ever hear his voice. Literally how he looks and sounds is up to the viewer. I genuinely thought this movie was brilliant, and that the plot was both unpredictable and refreshing. There has never been a film like Hardcore Henry, and I doubt there will be another one.

Seriously, if you love action movies, then you need to see this movie. The end *no spoilers* was completely awesome and the effects! Wow! The fighting scenes were brilliantly choreographed, it was mind-blowing. I loved this movie, but I will say again, it is a bit of a headache.

One of the characters, Jimmy, played by Shartlo Copely, is completely confusing, and he is hilarious. He will be one of your faves. His “British” d*ckheadiness is loveable! He is the joker of the movie, but he does have a dark background.

Okay, so just try the movie. It may not be for all of you, and I really don’t want to go into too much details because I don’t want to ruin it for you guys but I think most of you will enjoy the film! Comment what you think of it!
